With that said, I don't see how he says the CPE beats the ef2000is performance-wise in any way.
Gentlemen - please......
The test that keeps popping up as reference was done with strictly resistive loads.
There were four inverter generators. The CPE2000i, a Honda 2000i, a Kipor KGE2000i and the Yamaha 2000i.
The Honda and Yamaha were borrowed. I could not keep them for long periods of time and do not have them in my possession for immediate re-testing. The CPE2000i and Kipor are mine - bought and paid for with my money. I bought the Kipor before the CPE2000i was introduced. I did not buy a second Kipor and parallel kit due to problems with parts availability and a lack of strong technical support for the Kipor. Other than that issue, it is an excellent performer and a real workhorse.
The Honda and Kipor are extremely similar in design and their performance was essentially identical. Each has an engine at least 20cc larger than the CPE or Yamaha.
Regrettably, I did not make a video of the Yamaha test. I might add that this was ONE Yamaha and I did not have any others available for my testing. It is always possible that a single unit is not performing up to par even if there were no outward indications of problems.
The test I ran at the time were with resistive loads - an electric heater and 100 watt incandescent light bulbs. The loads were not inductive or capacitive. No doubt such loads would have made some difference.
The second image below is actually a link to a video of the CPE2000i test vs. the Kipor KGE2000i If you double click on the image you should be taken to the video test.
There is nothing made up or any bias. When the testing was done, the results were what they were.
My professional fields are education and electrical engineering. My interest in generator options other than an expensive red or blue model began back in 2005 when I started the 3000 Watt Chinese Generator thread with an ELM3000. I have developed an interest in RV class generators and have enjoyed fooling with them for years - evidence can be found on the aforementioned thread. My profession required my doing considerable research on multiple subjects. The ability to do research did not diminish when I retired. I continue to dig, ask questions and explore the what, when and how of Chinese generators. It is a fascinating area to explore as it opens up the entire Chinese manufacturing, legal and export ideology. Any so called "cheer leading" I may have given toward Champion has been a result of their responsive and responsible business practices to their product owners. The mass multitude of other Chinese generators have since disappeared from the market - largely due to our EPA requiring mufti-million dollar bonding for importers to assure emissions warranties would be met. The result is only about a dozen survived.
In light of the controversial statements being shared I think it is time to run another set of test on the CPE2000i using differing power factor loads with accurate instruments measuring the results. I can't do that today since I am not where the test can be conducted. As soon as I can - I will. Maybe someone else would like to run them as well and provide video documentation of the results?
In the interim I think I will return my time and attention to the relaxed and fun opportunities our ocean-front campsite and surrounding area offer.
