Prof, I kinda feel like I am somehow part of a fued between yourself, and a some other members on this forum. It is kinda ironic actually beacuse I thought I was defending you against accusations of , well, frankly a lot of things I thought were untrue. I do not think someone such as yourself who has invested as much time and effort to these forums would intentionaly hand out false information. What would you get out of it if you did? Generally, people such as yourself who like to tinker with stuff for the fun of it are some of the best sources of information in a multiplicity of fields. I shared what experience I had with both cpe and yamaha twins, which I thought would be valuable to the group, nothing more. It seems that my report was used to help rub salt in some old wounds. I don't like being part of that kind of stuff at all.
Because of your tests and all the other info I got from here, I purchased a pair of CPE twins. I am not sorry I bought them two years ago. They provided me with a portable twinnable home backup power source for two years. Now I am selling the pair for $700. So in my eyes I had fairly quiet home backup power system for two years and it cost $300. Not bad at all. They are a little touchy about loading, surges and they hunt some. As my wife added to our backup power demands the cpe were no longer adequate as we were running them close to their limits too often and they would overload and trip off. That iratates her, which in turn iratates me!
A little about myself. I am also an electrical engineer by background, with focus of digital signal processing and communcations engineering. I am in my mid-thirties, I have two school age children and a patient wife. I am currently an Internet Backbone Architect. I am one of the guys that designs and builds this Internet ether through which we speak. Because of the insane bandwidth demand growth, and the myriad of various systems and critical systems that now use the Internet Infrastructure, we tend to over-engineer everything by a large amount. Serious money is lost during any downtime! Guess who is responsible? We think nothing about spending to obtain the very best. (I'll take two!) That kind of thinking carries over somewhat in your everyday decisions as well.(Limited to a mere mortal's budget of course.) With the work/home schedule I have to juggle I just don't have time to fool around with this kind of stuff. Stuff has to be reliable, and work as advertised with no fuss out of the box. Which is why I am selling my twins and I bought blue. The twins are simply not as bullet proof as red or blue yet with the loads I use. Is that representative data for everyone else? No, and the cpe twins are almost half the price. Its a tradeoff. What engineer worth his salt doesn't like to make those kind of choices? Part of the fun right?
