My post demonstrating the Champion Inverter 2000 Watt's performance charging a set of batteries on an RV after what I feel to be (and is simply my opinion) reasonable usage and successful use of my generator with the WFCO converter was intended to show that the combination works. (and I did it for me, to make sure it works)
Hybrid's situation needs some looking in to.
My Champion Inverter 2000 Watt inverters have had both of their modules changed. I believe they are the V2.1 software.
Here is the scoop, the first one replaced was for a non external circuit breaker model. (stated it on the invoice)
Second generator replacement module (keep in mind this is generator number 2) indicated it was for an external breaker model. That one, I had problems with. While it would start some of my higher amp stuff, the voltage would take a nose dive. The electric power washer would trip the built-in GFI breaker, which is a condition that happens when power is removed from the plug. A call to CPE and they replaced that one with the same style as the first.
So, my external circuit breaker model generators have non-external circuit breaker rated modules. They were not replaced just because. The first was replaced because of quick overload conditions. The second, was replaced because of a failure which caused the motor to not turn when attempting to start.
I by-passed the ciruit breakers, and opened the gap on the spark plug to about 0.35". I noticed an improvement in my chainsaws and blower operation when I did that. So, I did the generators.
The only thing, now... is this reported hunting that occurs when paralleled together. When they share from about 1100 to 1200 watts, they see-saw back and forth. A little more load and it goes away. A little less load and it goes away. This condition occurs while operating the hot water heater or the air conditioner by themselves.
Aside from that... they do what I need. Impressive for the price.
My recommendation is to take up the professor's mention of SuperGen's offer to reprogram your module. Hybrid, give it a shot. Nothing to lose. Just the shipping.
My first tests a year and 1/2 ago involved running the Champion with two dead batteries attached to the WFCO converter. One 24 and one 27 group size. Yes, they were dead. That generator overloaded a couple of times until it finally stayed on. After several hours it failed. If you are running your batteries dead, you are sucking the life right out of them. Guess what I don't do, any longer?
