I was talking to DC Power Inc and they claim they have a way of using an external regulator and keep the CEL off. I believe the kit was $150. All he would tell me was that it was another regulator. It is not listed on there site either. You can call for more info. I have a Dodge and was thinking about doing this but never did, so, I have no personal experience with this.
My problem with the charging system is that it runs at 13.5 when moving. It struggles to keep 13.0 at idle with the lights and fan running. I have swaped out the alternator 2 times with different brand alternators with the same results.
