LEDcomp, have you upgraded the alternator charging circuit and grounds? or does it still max out at 13.4v even with a battery known to be fully charged. Fatter cabling on my Dodge increased amperage a lot.
I have not done any upgrades so far to the charging system (plenty of other upgrades). Step 1 was to remove the diode isolater and get the alternator wiring back to stock and install a Shure Power 1315-200 seperator off of the coach battery. I was hoping that would bring the voltage up, it did but not enough. I am now in the snooping around stage looking for a voltage drop somewhere. The alternator output is about 0.2 volts higher than the battery + post. Considering the distance and the fuse it runs through I dont think there is much room for improvement on the + side. From the alternator case back to the - battery post was much less than the other side. That is why I was thinking that the PCM was not driving the alternator hard enough.
I was also wondering if modifying the battery temperature sensor to make the ECM think it is colder and increase the output. It is possible that will put the PCM in limp mode if it compares that to intake air temp or some other temp sensor.
What charging circuit upgrades did you do? Did it help much? I have a '96 Ram Van chassis.
