Resistance is a big factor. So is voltage input to the regulator A terminal. Why not check the voltage Delta T? I know of few reman alternators that have not had stator copper burned out of the laminations. This greatly degrades the silicon iron interfaces. Mu level is increased. Then after both the stator and rotor are dipped in "varnish" and baked the hardened varnish is removed from stator laminations with a drum sander. The rotor pole pieces are sanded on a belt sander. Removal of say .003" stator iron and .005" rotor pole piece iron increases rotor stator air gap and that KILLS the alternator output curve. Welcome to rebuilt alternator hell. Here's your accordian.
