Thetford door not closing?

Got a new Thetford installed 4 years ago, just recently sometimes the door doesn't shut - ie, locks open. Was dumping it yesterday, and it stuck open twice. Had to put the gloves on, and reach in to flip it shut. Any easy fixes?

Anyone with a Style Plus or similar model Thetford toilet can tell you that, no, they're not all flat blades. Some models use a half ball style valve that seems to be better at self cleaning than the flat blade valves.

Rgr, thanks. So, it's called a blade, instead of a door. Got it.

    I'll give lubricating a shot.

Thoroughly clean bowl seal & blade first.

I only ever had trouble w/ one years ago, and it was from hard water deposits.
If its bad enuff, replace the blade, and maybe the whole turlet. I cleaned mine up as best I could, but it never would hold water very well.
If I had to do it again, I mite try some shower cleaner,....that mite dissolve that hard scale w/o damaging the plastic from scraping on it ??
  • Guys,

I think he's talking about a blade flush mechanism. They're flat.

I have and see mostly ball valve mechanisms but had a blade on my first camper. I'm pretty sure it was a Thetford toilet.
  • New Thetford WHAT? DOOR?

IF toilet.......clean the toilet bowl seal and blade.
Really clean it using your hands to flex it while cleaning.

Then lube seal and blade with plumbers grease or even olive oil. Rub it in good.
    NO petroleum based grease/lube
