Thinking of a new AC?

99 Jayco Designer 37'. Unit is in awesome shape and we are planning a trip into some hot areas next summer. I dont no what size the original unit is but it does not blow as cold as it used to...and am told they not "rechargabel etc". Thinking it may be time to replace it... suggestions? Looks like 15,000 BTU is max.....

  • If replacing the AC, check our models that have a heat coil or a heat pump in the unit. cost more, but worth it in my opinion.
  • Thanks folks... looks like you may hvae save me a chunk of $$. Will clean unit this weekend!! :)
  • Before you make the jump to a new one here is a simple test to see how the one you have is doing. Stick a thermometer in the air inlet while it is running for a few minutes and get a reading. Then do the same where the cooled air comes out of it. There should be 15-20 degrees difference between the inlet and outlet. If it is in that range a new one may not be much better.

Here is aZero Dollar Tune-Up that may very well restore your A/C's performance. It did for me, on a Coleman Mach A/C that was much older than yours. Went form "A/C Shopping" to "This is Cool." I recently did it on our Mach+ which is a 15000 unit. In that case the Condenser (the Cooling Coil) was not as dirty as the old unit, but it still helped.
