It is all about scenario as usual. I found it to be no trouble using a portable ground-based solar set-up (in a home-made tilting twirler contraption) Took less than half an hour to set up and take down.
For actual RV travelling, where you only stay a few days or overnight in one place, then you want roof-mounted panels for sure.
If you are travelling all day and only staying overnight (when it is mostly dark out) then portables are useless.
Scenario is everything in the RV game.
