Tire change intervals

I had Goodyear Marathons 2 years old 3 of the 4 blew on a trip. A dealer told me to change the tires to a 10 ply no mater how the new tires were. Contacted a local dealer who gave a price of $ 530.00 for 4 14 ply tires. I paid CW over % 700.00 for the Goodyears

If by "band damage" you mean belt/tread separation, this type of failure can usually be seen by doing a "free spin tire inspection".
Simply Google the phrase.

Sidewall "Blowout" is the popular term for "Run Low Flex Failure" which occurs when a tire has lost a lot of air but the vehicle continues down the road because the driver does not know a tire has lost air. This results in excess heat in the tire sidewall and the melting of the polyester body cord. The use of TPMS can provide sufficient warning to allow the driver to stop before the tire suffers this type of failure.

The LT vs ST tire debate continues on this Forum (which I've learned a lot from).

IMO, an LT tire is superior to an ST tire but I have ST tires on my trailer (Carlisle) and they seem to be doing a good job. I got them in Load Range D which gives me quite a bit of headroom with the trailer's weight.

Making tires in Asia makes sense to me. Isn't that where 90 percent of the natural rubber is harvested?

Does COOPER sell tires for trailers? How about using light truck tires?

Check your tire warranty. Most are covered for material/workmanship at least 5 years. Your "band damage" or delamination should be covered.

Good luck on the marathons. After my tread separation experiences, i will never go there again.

I am in my fifth year of china bombs. I keep the covered when in storage, keep inflated to full inflation pressure, inspect before every trip.

I will be replacing them next year for sure. There is a preference to Maxxis on this forum.

cover when not in use, really extense the life.

China is leader in trailer tires, but they have several plants with different qualities.
Do you happen to know the ratings and actual load on the tires?

Hey thanks for all the replies! The reason I ask is because 2 of the tires that came on it blew out at 2 years old on the same trip, but they were china made. So with the Goodyear Marathons sounds like I can go 3-5 years. Yes I am very particular with my tires before and during every trip also. Always checking air pressure and condition and was shocked that the original tires only lasted 2 years. But like I said they were made in China and I've heard nothing but bad things about them.
