Hi Scott,
I truly don't know--but I asked the Ford Heavy truck folks and they responded that I was ok.
Did yours come with air bags?
I've moved the generator as far to the passenger's side as I can now. That may even things up a little bit.
I suppose I could get "creative" and put the generator at the front. But snaking a cord up there would be a pain, since I use the genny more when moving than standing still (at least so far).
Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, we ordered ours with air bags - they certainly do help, but do not increase the weight rating for the axle, so we are stuck with having to make compromises for now. I have weighed mine, but by axle only - none of the truck stops near us have enough room on either side to get a "four corners" weigh-in. I have two slides street side, so I am fairly certain my driver side is going to be a bit heavier between the two. Since I know we have an issue on the rear, we have moved as much forward as we could and tossed out some items. It is frustrating, especially since we are 900-1,000 lbs, under gross - If I could only figure out how to carry 900 lbs. of stuff on a front mounted receiver hitch, we'd be in business!!!
We used to have an Airstream and I had a front receiver on the truck and carried bicycles up there, but my generator sat in the bed. I don't know if this would be an issue or not, but make sure your radiator etc. will get sufficient air flow for proper cooling if you do put the gennie up front. A front receiver should certainly be able to handle that weight and definitely shift some of the overall load forward. We ordered the motorhome with the Onan already installed.
