Tire size

I own a 2005 Château 5th Wheel and the placard on the trailer indicates 2 different size tires on the axles. The front axle is rated with LT 235 75R 16 tires and the rear axle is rated with LT 225 75R 16 tires. Would anybody know why the 2 different size tires are used and if I should decide to use only one size which of the 2 sizes is best to use. Right now the trailer is equipped from the dealer with 4 X LT 225 size tires.

I asked this question on a forum in Québec Canada and nobody seems to know why the 2 different size tires are used.

  • OK 235/75-16 is not listed. I glossed over the '85' :(

Anyway with 13800 GVWR I recommend either the 245/75 or the 235/85 depending on what fits best. This gives weight rating of 12,096 and leaves 1704+ that must go on the pin as I am sure it does. And you are probably not at full GVWR. There are certainly other brands besides GY that make these tires.

Generally I recommend the tires should carry the full GVWR and the pin or hitch weight is your safety margin. IMO OEM trailer tires are run at very max rating to save cost.

Could also go with a G rated tires if the wheels are rated 100+ psi.
    Sailun S637, or GY G614 have an LT235/85R16-G rated 3750 @ 110psi
  • Sorry if it was in the wrong topic. My first time on the forum. The GVWR of the trailer is 13,800 lbs. Thanks for all your replies.

I suspect your going to have to trial fit if you go the bigger size. But since they are rated the same install the smaller ones and go.

BTW. This is in the wrong forum. Mod notified
