toggle switch question

Okay so i am installing a fan behind the frigerator for cooling reasons that will come on at a preset temperature via the thermostat. What i would like to have in addition is a switch that would allow me to override the themostat and turn on at will. or turn off. What type of toggle switch would i need to use?
  • sign man, you would make everyone happy and make your post more readable if you edit your post to make the picture fit on the page. in your post, change
    "s5.jpg[/IMG]" to "s5.jpg width=640[/IMG]". Just add the width=640.

    Thanks
  • No, the contactors in the switch have the center position "off".

Yes but it is more expensive. To hook up an SPST you normally have two connectors, they may be on the end and in the center, or they may be one on each side.

A DP DT will have six connectors.. YOu have a choice of using one or both sides. but you connect to ONE end and the center connector on the same side.. or both connectors on one end and BOTH center connectors

The other end is NOT CONNECTED.

SPST and wire it in parallel with the thermostat.

That will allow you to turn on the fan even if the thermostat didn't, but it won't allow you to turn the fan off if the thermostat has it on.

You need a 3 position switch. But be sure it is rated for DC.

Position 1 has the thermostat controlling the fan.

Position 2 is off, nothing runs.

Position 3 has the fan running, even if the thermostat is off.

DC 3 position switch on Amazon for $5.40 delivered (plus tax if applicable)

If you already have it go ahead and use it.

If you have to buy a new switch just buy an SPST switch and save a couple of bucks.
