Anyone who has been on here since 2003 should know to thank Doug for his good free advice.
My three 12-year-old domestic ACs are going strong BUT I plan on buying a spare old style unit only because the control systems are different with newer units. If one of my units goes out I could be looking at $4000 to fix as the other units would have to be replaced plus the controls.
A cheaper option would be to replace the one unit with a non-ducted unit that has its controls on the ceiling. Not great but for $700 you could fix your problem... Sort of.
