Good to hear that you were able to run the window unit for that length of time. 40 amps continuous, I can only dream.....
I don't know what your overnight temps are but here in MN, it gets down to 60-65F most nights. If you start off in the AM with the night air in the trailer, I bet the 5K unit would have a better go at keeping temps down through the day.
Also churning under my thinking cap, how much additional draw is an 8K or 10K unit? The Mitsubishi splits are also noted for their efficiency. I'll have to look at these specs if I forge ahead down the AC trail.
Thanks for posting, Jim. I'll be subscribing to see how your torture test ends up.
From what I have seen and tested, it appears that you will consume roughly 100 watts of power for every 1K BTU's of cooling.
My 5K window unit uses about 460 watts.
11K portable dual hose uses 1000-1100 watts depending on temps.
My new home AC just installed this week is rated at 53K BTU and pulls 5600 watts per the sticker.
Also the ratio for cooling tons is about 12K BTU's = 1 ton.
