I hadn't thought of a scroll compressor. I did wonder what it would take to converter a A/C to a more efficient 12 volt compressor.
That's actually an interesting idea... I've never heard of them being used in small AC units, but they make them for refrigerators, so likely could be done as a self-build... (The 12/24V scroll compressors are pretty expensive though.)
