Yes you definitely need a repeater. The TST does not give a loss of signal for over one hour. Marginal systems may not have communication for 30 or more minutes a day you will never know there is a problem.
I'm pretty sure mine alarmed within just a few minutes of moving the display to where the signal on the far tire dropped.I can't be certain because I was playing with pressures just to see how the system worked.
I had mine on the console and it would drop a tire now and again with my triple axle toyhauler. I moved it up to the dash and have had no more issues. It's a good unit minus the lousy response time.
