TPMS

I would like a tire pressure monitoring set up. a quick look on EBay says that an rv ones start at 300.00 and up. ones for a car are 30.00 and up. I checked on some of the car type and they are only good for about 20 ft. i'm just over 30' from the dash to the rear tires. i'm not wanting to fork out the 300.00 + for one. so do any of you have one, and what kind is it, and how does it work?
thanks, Jay D.
  • I can't imagine a $30 TPMS being something I would want to trust on a car, much less an RV. Add my vote for the TST 507 TPMS. Our 10 sensor system has alerted us to potentially costly situations on several occasions with two different Class A's and toads.

Was recently driving on route 285 out of TX into NM and hit a crater sized pothole on the toad (a Mini Cooper Roadster). Instantly cut the sidewall with the rim. TPMS registered zero instantally on that tire. Had I not had the sensor there I wouldn’t have known for some time as I saw the pothole but didn’t notice anything with the car after going over it. The money spent on the (EEZRv) was justified by just this one ocurance!

Same TPMS, similar situation on my truck while towing it with motorhome. Have repeater as well as motorhome is 43ft.
  • Stay away from the Tire Minder TPMS. Had one with the relay halfway between the rear tire and dash for our truck and 5th wheel. An hour or so into nearly every trip several of the sensors alarmed.

  • Another vote for TST. It has saved me 3 or 4 times. The damage caused by a blown tire far exceeds the price of the TPMS.
    Cheers,
  • I,m a fan of TST. The cost of an RV system is far cheaper than the damage done by a tire slapping against the side of your trailer at 55-60 mph.
  • Another vote for the TST system. I have the 507RV model and it has saved my bacon twice. There's great peace of mind knowing what's going on with the tires on the TT.
    Happy camping!
  • Search this Forum for `TPMS' for more incentive to buy one.
  • If you purchase a TPMS designed to work on an Rv you will not have to fight with something that isn't correct for the application. Yes, $300 seems like a lot, but try to guess the money needed for a service call along side a highway when a tire fails and your stuck cause you didn't know it was low on air. I use the TST system and know it works exactly the way it was designed to help me know what the tires are doing.
