Ummm the minute alternator field voltage drops to less than 12.0 the ampere rating of the machine degrades horrendously. Huffing and puffing that 30 amp alternator would be lucky to output 22-amps. A 30-amp alternator outputs about 420 watts through a remarably good wiring harness and voltage regulator. 30 amp alternators are designed from paper to cash register to repkace energy depleted by the engine starting cycle and no more. I used to shake my head whwn rebuilding A8H Motorola alternators used on commercial salmon boats. The arc shaped rectifier aluminum heat sinks would heat and cool so many times they became fully annealed. They could be bent with the fingers like lead.
Even my pathetic Lifeline is rated 1000 MCA. With a similar size flooded battery one would have to forego cyclability and use an engine starting flooded 31 to approach the same level of MCA or CCA.
