Been on the fence with this but thinking it will be a good investment! So if I'm going portable not hard wire which is the best without spending several hundred?? Do I need the LED read-out? Will the entry level do the job? I'm getting one of them so which would you pick?
There's little doubt that just about
any type of protection for your rig's electrical system is FAR better than nothing at all but as usual the more you're willing to invest the more it will do for you. Yes, you can buy a relatively inexpensive surge protector that will indicate whether there may be a wiring issue with the source supply but without the ability to automatically shut the power off completely if it's either too high or too low I don't see the point in owning one. Instead, in portable units a model such as the newest
TRC 34830 or
Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C make the most sense to me considering the protection either offers
every time you plug in. JMO, but when it comes to protecting a rig in which the electrical system can be damaged to the tune of thousands of $$$$ and your life which is invaluable I personally don't see the cost of acquiring one of these units as an issue. FWIW, I have an older TRC 34730 I bought used from another RV owner who was getting out of the sport and although I know of at least two times it's saved my rig in just the last year I'm planning to upgrade next year to a hardwire
Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C simply for the additional features it offers.
