Transfer Switch

Scroll down to schematics for a 30 and for a 50 here. Yours might be similar or you can find its own schematic. Might be able to put gen in with control panel or whatever. Before that, wait till somebody here who knows about this has his say! :)

Sure. A few wire nuts and connect hot-hot, neutral-neutral, ground-ground. Depending on the configuration you might be able to use the internal connectors to bypass the relay.

Open the cover and pull the wires off.

Just connect the generator to the wires that feed the main panel. Do not connect the cord to the power.

There are several devices made to connect larger wires together. The TS switch will have wires coming in from Generator and Shore and a 3rd set of wires that goes out to the coach. Just connect the incoming shore to the outgoing wires (with the coach unplugged!!!!!) and you are back in business.

Go to page 2, see the diagram. The configuration may help you figure out how to by-pass the TS. I would think, just unplug the TS from the inverter, and plug your camper into your generator. The "converter" in the camper should power all your DC and AC power needs, except maybe the air conditioner and microwave at the same time.

You meant from incoming gen since he is off-grid.

First step is to measure the gen AC at the ATS to make sure the gen is OK.

if transfer switch goes bad it should default to generator therefore you should have power when gen. is running. been there done that.

Not necessarly... the ATS in my unit "Defaults" to generator if it has a choice of shore or gernny.. but if it fails it sticks on shore in most cases (one failure mode stays on "Current source" but the rest go to shore.

Transfer switches come in two main types.. Mine on shore power is "Not energized" that is the solenoids are "off" no current in the coils.. Fire up the genny and about 1 minute later the coils energerize and it transfers.

Another type has two sets of normally open contactors. When shore power comes one set pulls in, Generator pulls in the other.. In some cases neither selects inverter (if it has that option).

Disconnect the GEN leads and the ATS output leads and wire nut or split bolt them together until you can find and electrician to have a look.

ATS is 2 power sources in and 1 power source out. Its just a selector switch.

I thought standard TS was connected to the cord as default. If you start the generator there is often a 20 second delay to switch.

And when things fail they don't necessarily reset to some position. Could be a loose or burnt connection for all we know.
