Transmission Temp. Gauge on a 6.8 L V-10 engine

Hello All, I would like to install a transmission temp. gauge on my 2008 Jayco Greyhawk motorhome. It has a 6.8L V8 engine. This is the only gauge it doesnt have on the dash. Is this gauge necessary...

Years ago I added a tranny temp gauge on my 1989 Pace Arrow MH. Fairly easy job. I drilled a hole in the pan. (Remove it first) Make sure where the hole is drilled there is enough room for the probe inside the tranny. Some are pretty tight in space. I had a nut welded to outside of pan with same threads as probe.
