I recall reading about working Magnetic Bearing systems back as far as, I think High School (Graduated 1968 liked to read Popular Science and electronics) Believe there are working Mag/Levitation systems in operation (High speed rail) in a few places.. They eliminate friction by using magnetic levitation, which is a form of magnetic bearings.
