TT Slide Outs

I have two slide outs in my 2011 TT. A previous post got me thinking. I have never liked the sound and motion when I activate the slide outs. The motor sounds like it is extremely stressed. There is lots of squeaking and noise going on, though I have used silicone lube on the gears. And the slide out seems to bounce around as if the room is much to heavy for the mechanism. I am afraid to put any weight in the room since it seems like I am about to break something. But of course I load the room up since I do have a family to pack for.

Anyone else have these impressions? What kinds of failures do these mechanisms have? Anyone out there overload one of these rooms and break something?

Thanks.

My big slide squeaks, squeals, and shimmies back and forth. Motor seems to struggle. All the surrounding neighbors stop and look at what is making all the racket. I have lubed everything I can get access to including the rack and pinion, slide seals, slide rails, and as far down the screwjack tube as the drylube would reach. Slide unit is squared up and appears to move freely (and quiet) once it gets past a certain point. I even tried the service bulletin Lippert issued regarding lubrication of the pinion gear packs. My unit is a 2013 and has been doing this since I brought it home. Would love to be able to get rid of the noise. Every time I use the slide, I am waiting for something to fail.

X2. Exactly. Every time I use my slide I am waiting for the room to fall off the camper. Wish there was something that could be done.

  • Mine (2 slides) have creaked and groaned for years, but have never has any problems.

Possibly the squeaking you are hearing is from the rubber seals and the wiper rubbing against the slide wall as it moves.
  • Our slide takes it sweet time to extend and retract, and makes plenty of noise doing so. But it continues to work fine so I leave it alone. I do not however, load the slide with extremely heavy items until its fully extended (that would be me).
