Thats the thing, I wont have to pay for the copper welding wire so this method is attractive to me -I own a steel piling mobile welding company and I have many 50 foot lengths of double zero I can use.
I have two T105's now that are about 2 years old
We usually boondock a few days at a time, drive for 8 hours and couple more days etc. Our road tripping boondocking time hasnt changed much over the years and our current setup has worked well in that the few hours a day of generator time (make coffee, run hair dryers, toasters and AC etc) have always been enough.
I have always discharged quite a bit, 30% to 40% between good long bulk charges and my batteries have lasted years. I only bought new T105's as someone stole my sun savers a couple years ago.
What has changed is the electronics, we have more electronic junk on board now then we ever have.
Wifi booster, cell boosters, chargers, laptops, chromebooks, gizmos, gadgets, a big pile of hoopla if you ask me. Sadly I have to be in contact and most of this **** is required in order for me to disappear for a month at a time.
That is a good point about the solar in that charges while stationary, while glaringly obvious I hadnt thought about that, and as a gadget fanatic a good excuse to buy solar - but for the moment, I am leaning towards alternator power off the truck.
