Yeah, that's the kind of ambiguous language I would expect from lawyers, not engineers.
My Yamaha literature is even more vague.
What I'm going to do, just for a surplus of safety, is unhook the banana plugs on the down gennie, but leave the ground hooked up when I'm running one generator on the parallel connector cables.
