Unusual pinging issue (2005 Ford three valve V10)

My 1997 V-10 (2 valve) started pinging, so I had to use higher octane to keep it from happening.

By coincidence, the radiator sprung a leak, and after replacing it, the pinging stopped and I no longer needed the higher octane.

I have no idea if that is your issue, but it shouldn't be too hard to at least visually check the radiator, or have it flushed out and tested.
