My poly panel wakes up before the sun breaks the horizon and stays on until after it sets. My mono blows chunks in comparison.
While you all are talking mppt and pwm and such, I went a different route and worked with the dimensions Mex gave of two panels that were 4x8. I found a site with all the different panels for comparison. Most 400w panels are 51-52 inches wide, so a pair would hang off the roof 4 inches on each side. Dropping down around 350w would fit two in a 8x8 box with no over hang. Both would need MPPT as the voltages of panels that large can be over 40v. (46v for the 400w I believe)
All I can tell you about backs is in my youth I had nicknames like Lurch, hulk and the forklift. Now that I'm 51 the only nickname that fits is Rice Crispies because as I move all you hear is snap, crackle and pop.
