I have a $400. Fluke multi-meter that I used when I worked as an industrial electrician. I have an amp probe adapter for it that would read up to 400 amps. The meter had a record function that read and stored min., max.,avg. over time. I could play it back and see what was going on with unit in question. It would also do peak readings. But as I said it was expensive. I have not priced the newer ones. They may do more for a lot less.
