very low coolant

our 2006 itasca witha a gas engine has been parked for a couple of years.
we wanted to drive it a mile or so to get it serviced - engine all change etc.
we noticed that the yellow coolant was very low. there is nothing on the floor, does this stuff evaporate?

will it do any harm to drive it to the servicing folks?

we will have a look to see if the hoses are okay.
thanks all

  • If it were me I would add water and then tell the service personel that your coolant was low so they can test the system.
  • Check all the RV systems too. Two years is a while. Your drive to the repair shop would be good for sloushing the water/bleach mix around in the fresh water tank.

Only do this on a cold engine. Steam burns hurt. A Lot!
  • If you are going to change the coolant, just add water-- distilled water best, and a good use of $.97.

If not going to change coolant, determine what is in there and buy some of it.

I would NOT drive with very low coolant level.

Now, if the level in the overflow reservoir is all that is low, no worries. BUT, you need to remove the radiator cap to verify that the level in there is OK.
