VIAIR P88
After my cheap Costco compressor took a dump I surfed around the net for a new one. Due to the recommendations on this forum I purchased the Viair P88 off Amazon for $70.00. I just got done doing a little test of the unit and here is what I found for anyone interested.
I deflated a 245 75R 17 tire on a Dodge Ram by removing the valve stem and letting it go flat. I must say that the TPMS system sure restricts the air flow, I think it took longer to make the tire flat then it did to make it round again. Here are some recorded times for certain PSI's.
20 psi in 4 minutes
40 psi in 7 minutes
60 psi in 12 minutes
70 psi in 14 minutes
80 psi in 17 minutes.
The unit is way quieter than I expected it would be which is a little plus. The air hose was getting quite hot by the time I hit 80 psi but this is to be expected. One most defiantly doesn’t want to touch the cylinder head during or for a while after the compressor is run as it gets very hot. I found the attached pressure gauge to be within a pound or two of the truck read out, I checked this a couple times during the fill.
All in all I think this unit is a tough little guy which should store well in a truck or RV and handle getting bounced around until needed. Only time will tell how the pump holds up but most of the internet reviews are favorable.
