I assumed an EMS because of the marque and year.
I have had electronics assemblies catch fire on a ceramic tile work bench and never trip a breaker or blow a fuse. A 2 watt resistor can glow red hot and set a circuit board afire with 10 watts of short.
CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS TIGHTNESS AND INTEGRITY FIRST
While plugged into adequate shore power I load test by starting up a roof air, then in addition, load various receptacles with a 1,650 watt space heater. This is a decent AC load to verify with.
If your converter -was- a WFCO I would more than seriously consider upgrading to a better unit. WFCO is the "Yugo" of converters (years ago it was BW Magnetek).
There is no such thing as converter "backfeed". This is one of three things, a failed converter, overvoltage which should have fried 120vac accessories or a loose connector which overheated.
Aluminum circuit breaker box buss bars were never designed to vibrate over highways. Set screws will loosen. This can be learned the easy way or the hard way. When I made my bus I used marine toggle breakers and fitted silicon bronze external lock washers under every 8-32 screw. Notice I write set-screws. They are the vulnerable culprits.
