Volt meter question?????

Have a golf cart 36 volt (6 6v batteries) and i want to add a volt meter on them so i know when to charge them when they get low. this is the meter i am talking about. 36 volt meter

My question is,if I connect the 2 wires (red, black) to one of the 6v batts will that give me the volts for all 6 batts at the same time or do I have to connect each batt. to the meter???

Thanks
  • And the readings you are looking for are 38.16 full and 34.4 discharged to 10%.
  • your GC batteries are wired in series (6x6v=36v). that meter will tell you the state of the charge as if you had a single 36v battery if you connect the leads as mentioned. most folks simply plug their GC into a charger at the end of the day.
  • To get 36 volts the batteries are connected in series from positive to negative of next battery. Reading voltage from the positive and negative on one battery reads only that battery individually. To read them as one 36 volt battery you must connect to the negative on one end of the series and the positive on the other end of the series the same way that they are connected to supply power to your cart.
  • Neither. You find the proper + and - terminals to register the 36v. You will find one terminal at the first and one at the last battery. You'll know the first and last as those are the terminals that have the connecting cable that goes to the cart's wiring.

The voltage at any 6v battery will be 6v.
