have you done a power audit, ?
How much power are you using every day
You mention the converter, but it sounds like you are not using any shore power at all
An rv absorbtion fridge running on electric uses a,lot of power, 350 watts or more
Approx 30amps when cycling, or do you have a residential fridge ?
i have the same controller, 505w of solar, and a 120v residential fridge
i run the generator several hours each day usually in the morning to bulk charge the batteries ,Then the solar does the top off and help carry the daytime useage
batteries power us all night
i think you need to have the converter and other needs on shore power , More than you have been doing
Hi Mr Wizard. We are on shore power, on 20A not 30, but are trying to minimise use so enable the charger function of the Xantex only when I feel we need to. The fridge is on propane.
Were not fanatic about it--we are running the AC, set to 80F, which is usually 7 or 8 hours a day. We run two Max Air fans at half speed the rest of the time. I enable the charger if the battery voltage is 12.2 before at bed time which rarely happens--usually if the power has been off and we were watching TV and/or using the microwave via the inverter. I also charge with shore power once a week or so just to be sure the batteries do get a full charge. Like I said, I'm trying to save my friend a few pesos--but not at the expense of my batteries! I'm also trying to see just what I can get out of the batteries and solar.
I'm just going to have to move or replace and move the controller and run some new wires.
