Looks like a good value for what it does. With a separate surge protector it's all you need (and will still cost less than Hughes 30).
I understand that Hughes doesn't buck at all, unless they changed something very recently: "The unit is designed to boost below 113 volts and go to by-pass at over 115 volts".
Recent model Hughes absorbs a spike, yes. With a warning that after such an incident it will "likely need a repair" :)
