OP here: I have it all working. Here are some answers to some of the questions in this post that I learned from my experience:
The battery was shipped to me dry with a separate box that contained the electrolyte solution. The electrolyte was in a special container that flowed into the battery when I was ready to install it. There was a sealing cap “strap” that came with it that I put in place over the battery holes that sealed the battery once the entire electrolyte solution had flowed in.
I’m not sure if I needed to but, I put the battery on a “Maintenance” charge for two hours then installed it in the generator. I barely touched the switch and it started right up. I didn’t have to crank the engine for a long time so I’m not sure how strong the battery was. It was mission accomplished (getting the generator started) so no more concerns about how much charge the battery had. The battery had enough power to start the generator, which I then ran for two hours to break it in, and from there the generator charged the battery up to max.
