Hi GordonThree,
I did not disconnect from the 12 volt source. The fan has always shut off as soon as I shut down the generator. I don't remember if the fan runs when the inverter is on.
I'm fairly sure it is a 120 volt fan--but of course I truly do not know.
It was soot--not a scorch mark.GordonThree wrote:
What fan is 120 volt? Pretty sure the inverted fan is dc powered. Did you disconnect the battery as well?
A simple overheated component or two wouldn't have left a scorch mark up your wall.
The fans in my converter chargers are DC for sure. Can't remember for the inverters, but most likely.
I noticed one time recently the charger fan kept running after I had turned off its 120 input. The temp controlled fan in the charger had come on while it was charging so the unit was hot when I turned it off.
I thought this was peculiar since I normally unclamp the charger from the batteries and would not then see that. It is not good to have another draw on the batteries, but now I see the reason is to help cool it down after you shut it off for installed converters.
On that, ISTR posts from folks on here wondering why they sometimes on hot days heard the converter fan come on when they were not on shore power? Answer was the converter has DC fan and the converter is still wired to the batteries.
