Waste Tank Plumbing Questions
I had a leak in my grey tank plumbing. Thought I had a crack in a 90 degree 1 1/2" elbo. To fix the problem I removed the grey tank side of the Bladex waste valve assembly and loosen the hose clamp holding the 3" x 1 1/2" tank adapter to the bottom of the grey tank. Turns out the problem was not a cracked pvc elbo, but a leak at the junction of the tank adapter and the tank. It looked like the connection to the grey tank was nothing more than some caulk or plumbers putty around the adapter that was pushed up into the grey tank and then hose clamped to hold it there. So I re-caulked the adapter shoved it back into the tank, and put on a new hose clamp. No more leak. Problem solved OR maybe not! I'm wondering about my repair.
Is that normal? Nothing more than putty and a hose clamp? Before reconnecting I felt around the inside of the grey tank at the 3" outlet and found what seemed like a 1/2" piece of the adapter was "stuck" up there like maybe it had actually been cemented in and broken off. I felt up there because the 3" end of the adapter did not seem to go far enough into the tank to get a reliable hose clamp tightening. Maybe what I thought was putty was actually some accumulated grey tank "gunk". Not knowing how the connection was made I assumed the piece "stuck" up there was there so as to not allow the adapter to go too far into the tank itself which might cause the tank to not fully empty. Did I do the right thing or should I have cemented the adapter to the tank?
