My new unit has a two way water heater, to use it on electric I have to go to the outside access door and turn on the switch. Can I just leave this switch in the on position and leave it there.
If you have a switch inside on the wall somewhere, there is no reason to ever have to turn the one outside to "off". As far as cooking the element, the newest units can even handle a few minutes of "dry cooking". Nothing like your house. Because the newer heaters (at least some of them), have a reset. If you try to light it dry, it will kick the reset, and not do any harm to the element.
