For me, a piece of hose that would connect to the inlet port on the pump and a bucket of water are things that I can readily put my hands on, even if I'm out camping.
I suppose that when I posted the above, I should've added that you're supposed to hook up the piece of test hose and stick the loose end into the bucket of water and then turn on the pump. If it doesn't pump water, the pump is not working. Sorry
I'm glad you stuck with it and found the problem. Learning what you did will serve you down the line. But, it's knowledge that you hope you never have to use....:B
