It is personal thing, but my experience is that if you let yourself wander to other tasks, it is easy not to hear watch alarm, not to mention that rough timing brings big margin error.
Blown full water tank inside camper is no fun at all on other hand.
So when open big cap can prevent a disaster, I would not let myself to go farther than 6 feet from it.
