All - I've done the search and extended it back, but I'm just not getting a hit on water tank repair. My friends have a crack in their tank and I know we need to use some special type of sealant...

Drill a small hole at each end of the crack to keep it from spreading. You didn't mention what the tank was made of. There may be more options than Eternabond as a patch.
