Water temp problem

I am trying to get the last few bugs worked out on our rig. The help I have received here has beem great. What I am facing now is am issue with hot water. When I hit the water heater switch the propane fires right up and then cuts off after 20 minutes or so. Then when I turn on the hot water it comes out super hot right away for a couple seconds and then is just barely warm. While taking a shower the temp is mostly just barely warm and every couple minutes the temp gets nice and hot for a couple seconds before going back to warm. Any ideas what may cause this?

One common cause of this is some sort of a bypass connection allowing cold water into the hot water piping without going through the heater. Usually this is either because the winterizing bypass valve hasn't been shut, or because the outside shower has the hot and cold water taps on but the water turned off at the shower head. (The inside shower can also work this way, of course, but most people don't forget to turn it off, not to mention that complaining of a cold shower implies that it's not turned off.)
  • Make and model of water heater?
Sounds like there is too much air trapped in water heater.
The ECO is cutting out and not the thermostat.
