I'm getting tired of pulling the negative terminal on and off :-). I see there are the kind where you turn the knob, the knife blade kind, a remote control kind, a hard wired remote switch on the dashboard... What's good?I have a lot of bad back days when it's hard for me to lift the hood of the van, so the remote-controlled type was very tempting. Cheaper and easier than wiring some giant cable up to the dashboard. But I see an Amazon reviews that it (the one I was looking at it anyway, for $50) uses an electromagnet, and will drain my battery if I forget and leave it on.What do you use, and why?

I see my meaning was not clear! You know how it is when something is clear in your head and you don't realize it can be interpreted another way :-). I have now edited the title to specify that I'm asking about the chassis battery, not house batteries.

I use the cheap one pictured above with the green knob.

However, they are cheap and the plastic knob will spin on the brass insert. To stop this, I cross-drilled the knob and brass and pressed in a pin. Now the plastic knob will not spin on the brass.

I see no one noticed you bad back days. With this relay you can just push a momentary rocker switch from inside your RV.

Rather than a shut-off switch, maybe using a small solar maintainer would be sufficient to keep it up even with the parasitic loads of the chassis? It depends on where you're storing the vehicle. This also works against self-discharge, which can be rather substantial in warm or hot conditions (and much less so in cool or cold ones).

For a day or a week or two, it should not be necessary to disconnect the chassis battery.

I use the cheap battery cut off for my classic car when stored in the winter. Costs about $5 on ebay and has worked for me for many years.

I have thought of getting the remote operated disconnect switch but so far what I have works fine.
