What kind of screw head

Clutch heads ???
Not just in RVs, General Motors used tons of those back in the 60s. I still have 2 drivers for them.

After Sue T's comment, to google for 8 point screw heads, and finding out here on the forum, what bit fit the heads, a #2 square Roberson, l found a source to buy the screws. This company, Hickory Trailer Parts, calls them "exterior trailer Tek" screws. Still don't believe I will buy any, as it seems to me, they would strip out much easier than a standard 4 point square, that I am more familiar with.

All screws should be Robertson and everything else on the face of the earth should be banished. Great Canadian invention!!

Make sure that when you replace the lens that the drain hole is DOWN or water will be trapped.

bristol heads I've seen are a 6 point spline drive with a wedged taper so that it's virtually impossible to cam out. extremely good design, probably the most immune to damage of anything I've seen.

While this is an 8 point not really spline drive, certainly not the wedge taper.

Back in the '60s when I was in the avionics business, I had a complete set of "Hunter" Bristol wrenches.

The set included 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 point wrenches.

Another area of confusion is "cross point" screw drivers.
A lot of people don't know the subtle difference between a
"Phillips" and a "Reed and Prince".

I found out that the phillips head was initially designed to purposely "cam out" to keep production workers with automatic drivers from over tightening or breaking screws.

then along came Reed and Prince and Pozidrive designed to be much harder to "cam out" under use.

And yes, your right, few folks know the difference between the cross point drives and fewer yet can identify which is which.

Why does the RV industry have to be different. Years ago they used a lot of Clutch head screws.
