What should getting wheel bearings packed cost?

I have a 2017 Grand Design 27RL 5th wheel. I contacted a local service center to inquire about getting my wheel bearings packed. I was quoted $490 for this service.

I had another place that has since closed that used to take care of my old 5th wheel and I never had to pay anything close to that. Now that he has retired I am forced to find another place to deal with.

What should I expect to pay for this service?

Thanks!

Dave

  • your friendly guy next door will do it for $couple hundred bucks. heck if you were close to me ,we,d just do it. I don,t drink but a cold pepsi will do it. or a mom/pop garage in the area.
  • When we had a trailer, we used Les Schwabs and they were very reasonable. I'm sure you don't have a Les Schwab Tire Center in PA but you might check your local tire dealers.
  • First, do not go to an RV dealer for this simple service. Any good mechanic can do a better job for less money. Just look at the shop rate and ask yourself if that is fair when you consider the lowest paid employee will be messing with your trailer.
  • Around here it is around $100.00 per axle, including brake adjustment.
