I use a stick/slider type. Even if it's a pound or two off, that's not the end of the world nor a real safety concern if the target pressures are set responsibly.
I did just "upgrade" my car's stick gauge to a cheap dial type because the stick one I used previously self-destructed, blowing apart into pieces as I was checking the pressure. I don't have any reason to believe the cheap dial is necessarily any more accurate; it just happened to be on a good clearance sale when I needed a replacement.
