What to do with Generac having bad board?

I heard all bad opinions about Generac, but the one build into my camper was about $4500 option (it is inverter generator) and with only 80hr should not give the troubles it does.
Looks to me that PO had it "repaired" as lot of (metric) bolts are missing and some monkey job shows.
So I tested it and the $350 electronic board is bad.
I have Honda 3000 so don't really need Generac, but beside convenience of build-in, I hate to junk good piece of machinery.
Still it is not worth putting $350 IMHO, so shall I keep it hoping I can find the board cheaper, or just junk it?

  • My point is that even I spend $350 on new board, Generac tend to break very often, while $500 can buy me generator with 2 years warranty.
I had 2 of those Generac and both blew the board.
There is no way I can test the board alone, but one board would not activate the starter. I could bypass that with a jumper. (there is video on youtube where one owner extended the jumper to additional switch inside and reported that 2 year later it still works).
2nd board would not give power to ignition coil. Did not try to jump that.
But bottom line, 2 board failed on 2 generators is not making me to buy 3rd one for full price.
  • I would replace the part.
What part of what generator model is bad? Who tested it?

why junk a good generator worth 10* the cost of the board

X2, fix it. You can't buy a good generator for $350.
  • Well this isn't for everyone but I would be mighty curious about exactly what failed on the board. If it was a PROM control or an oscillator then things get narrow. If the inverter portioned it is the freq generating section or power FETs?

Reminds me of trying to find a good used battery in Mexico. How many are on the waiting list? Got a stopwatch to time the implied warranty?

Invest $350 and how much can you get for it on Craigs List?
