The Xantrex may be junk, but at least one user here has been able to start and run a roof air conditioner with one. He later moved to 24 volts and a different brand of 2000 watt PSW inverter--and is NOT able to start the roof air with it.
Your wire size is suspect. Even if the existing inverter IS toast or simply too low in capacity, a replacement unit may not work much better with the too thin wiring that is in place.
You may have sulphated the AGM battery bank by chronic undercharging. How do you recharge?
I suggest flipping off all the breakers except the one for the microwave and trying to run it again. My microwave was the toughest load for my old MSW inverter.
