That is a tough spot.. If you have the room I'd sew and glue and glue on a strip of something to reinforce I like denim for that in most cases but at that spot be careful cause it may cause the awning to wind up odd.
Mine have torn in a few spots but always closer to the body where I can add a layer of reinforcement no problem (last turn as it rolls up.)
